True Quality Takes Time

As with much of today’s consumable items, many once-lauded companies and products have become more industrial - cutting quality to lower costs, adjusting recipes to use cheaper ingredients and faster processes, and including more chemicals for product consistency or shelf life, just to name a few. That’s one of the main reasons why, several years ago, we made the decision to begin sourcing our own products directly from Italy.

We wanted to start simple with pasta and olive oil, and were fortunate enough to find an artisan producer of ancient grain pasta (he is, in fact, the man who ’brought back’ ancient grains 20 years ago) as well as an incredible fourth generation olive oil producer. Your response to these two products has been overwhelming and we cannot thank you enough; not only for your trust in our process and selection, but also your continued support on this journey.


We started this work in 2022, with the pasta and olive oil landing on Pronio's shelves in 2024. After two and a half years, these two products are still the only ones we've introduced; not because we are finished, but because the process to find the right producer and product is neither quick nor simple. For context, we have been searching for the right tomato, from the right partner, from the right terroir, for three years now… it’s a labor of love (albeit, a tasty, tasty love).

However, after years of searching, thousands of miles driven down (mostly unpaved) Italian roads, meeting 100+ producers, asking them the hard questions about production processes and sourcing, and tasting/testing/tasting again, we have several new products we plan to bring to your kitchen tables very soon. These producers (across multiple food categories) are among the best in Italy and the world, and are aligned with our focus on making good food the right way: sourcing the best quality ingredients grown in a sustainable way and processed using traditional methods. Each of these artisan producers will be highlighted over the coming months as we roll out the new products, and we hope you find them to be an extension of the highest standard of quality you have come to expect from us.
